WAZImap helps journalists add context and depth to stories by giving them easy and quick access to reliable and factual data. WAZImap will help them focus on how to make better use of data and explore data journalism stories.
WAZImap takes data from the Census Database and turns it into a mobile-friendly website with simple data visualizations of county/city/district level data on key demographic issues. These data visualizations are embeddable so that journalists can use them in their stories. WAZImap also allows for the comparison of any two areas side-by-side to see what the data reveals about those regions.
WAZImap Tanzania is still in development and will be formally launched later this year.
Media Monitoring Africa and Code for South Africa first developed WAZImap in South Africa as a tool to provide easy access to South African census and elections data. It has been expanded to Tanzania, Kenya and Zambia. WAZImap is based on the U.S.-based Census Reporter.
